Popular Claude Code Mods

A mod is a Claude Code plugin whose hooks are JavaScript or TypeScript functions that run inside the Claude Code process itself — not shell commands or prompts configured in a settings file. A mod can draw a pane beside the transcript or a band above the prompt, restyle what Claude Code draws (never the permission prompt), step into tool calls and requests, and add its own /commands.

Unlike a settings hook, a skill, or an MCP server, a mod runs in-process: it can draw UI and rewrite Claude Code's own rendering — and it is never sandboxed.

Below is a starting set of five mods, ranked by GitHub stars. More mods are coming: the catalogue lives in a data file, so it grows without a code change. The plugins module explains how a mod's hooks are wired and how to turn mods off: Mods — Hooks as JavaScript Functions .

Five mods worth trying

terminal-browser

Pane
zenbu-labs/terminal-browser

Runs a real Chromium-backed browser in a pane beside the Claude Code conversation — browse a GitHub pull request next to the chat while Claude works. It also exposes an API that other plugins can use to drive that browser.

~4.2k GitHub stars MIT star count as of Oct 22, 2026

Requirements

  • Claude Code 2.1.287+
  • The terminal-browser CLI (install commands below)
  • A terminal with kitty graphics protocol support (Ghostty, kitty, WezTerm and others)
  • Windows only via WSL

Good to know

  • The star count belongs to the whole terminal-browser project — the Claude Code mod lives in its claude-code-plugin/ folder.
  • The author marks the mod as experimental.

Install the terminal-browser CLI first:

curl -fsSL https://terminal-browser.sh/install | bash
brew install terminal-browser

Install (from your shell)

claude plugin marketplace add zenbu-labs/terminal-browser
claude plugin install terminal-browser@terminal-browser

filetree

Sidebar
data-goblin/claude-code-filetree

An IDE-style file tree with Git status in the right sidebar. Files shimmer as Claude reads or edits them, and selecting a file hands its path to Claude.

Requirements

  • Claude Code 2.1.287+
  • In the terminal it needs the fullscreen layout (/tui fullscreen) and at least 110 columns
  • The Desktop app docks it itself, and /filetree reopens it

Install (from your shell)

claude plugin marketplace add data-goblin/claude-code-filetree
claude plugin install filetree@claude-code-filetree

effortless

Band above prompt
HeyCubit/effortless

Picks the reasoning effort for every prompt — quick questions get Low, hard jobs get High — using a Haiku judge on your own Claude login. One band above the prompt shows how full the chat is and how long the prompt cache stays warm, with one-click handoff or compact.

259 GitHub stars MIT star count as of Oct 22, 2026

Requirements

  • Claude Code 2.1.287+

Good to know

  • The author's own benchmark reports effortless cutting Opus cost by about 21% compared with always running at medium effort on real coding tasks — the author's claim, not an independent measurement.
  • It calls a model to judge every prompt, so it uses some of your usage.

Install (from your shell)

claude plugin marketplace add HeyCubit/effortless
claude plugin install effortless@effortless

show-your-work

Terminal output
iamumeransari/claude-show-your-work

Shows images and plays videos inside the terminal, so you can review Claude's work without leaving it. It can record before and after versions of a change and play them side by side in sync, and it keeps every version in a history — the copies live in .show-your-work/ in your project.

255 GitHub stars MIT star count as of Oct 22, 2026

Requirements

  • A terminal with kitty graphics protocol support (for example Ghostty or Warp)

  • ffmpeg for videos

Install (inside Claude Code)

/plugin marketplace add https://github.com/iamumeransari/claude-show-your-work.git#releases
/plugin install show-your-work@iamumeransari

image-view

Above prompt
jarrodwatts/claude-image-view

Shows thumbnails of the images you paste above the prompt instead of bare [Image #1] tags. Real pictures in Ghostty and kitty, half-block thumbnails in other terminals and inside tmux or screen.
